Flushing, NY – Competing less than 24 hours after their last match, the Hunter men's tennis team took to the courts on Saturday evening and came out with the same result as their Friday night match, sweeping singles play en route to an 8-1 victory over the College of Staten Island in a CUNY Athletic Conference match at the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
Sophomore
Gian Arceo (Flushing, NY/Bayside) won his seventh consecutive singles match in a hard fought 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 sixth singles match. Junior
Kyle Manson (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) improved to 4-0 in single play with a 5-6, 6-0, 7-5 win at fifth singles.
Manson also teamed up with sophomore
Noel Marrero (Bronx, NY/Lehman) for an 8-2 win at second doubles.
Marrero improved to 6-3 on the year with a 6-1, 6-3 win at fourth singles.
Junior
Jerome Guce (New City, NY/Ramapo) and senior
Richard Wong (Bronx, NY/Lehman) were paired up for an 8-4 victory at first singles.
Guce would go on to win his third singles match 6-2, 6-1 to improve to 7-1 on the year, while
Wong won first singles, 6-4, 6-2 improving to 8-2 in the top slot for the Hawks.
Freshman
Roy Forberg (Brooklyn, NY/AOSR) rounded out the match with a 6-4, 6-0 win at second singles for his fifth singles win of the season.
Hunter now stands at 6-3 overall and are 5-1 in the conference which puts them into a tie for second place. Hunter retuns to action on Monday, when they will resume play with Baruch after that match was rained out two weeks ago. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. at York College in Jamaica, NY.
