Bronx, NY – The Hunter College men's tennis team closed out CUNY Athletic Conference play with a 7-2 victory over the Lehman Lightning on Tuesday afternoon at the APEX in the Bronx, NY. The victory clinches the third spot in next week's CUNYAC Championship Tournament.
Senior
Richard Wong (Bronx, NY/Lehman) and junior
Jerome Guce (New City, NY/Ramapo) paired up for their third win together of the season, taking first doubles 9-7 and
Wong would go on to win first singles in three set, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.
Guce had a tough match at second singles, falling in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 5-10.
Sophomore
Gian Arceo (Flushing, NY/Bayside) continued his win streak, picking up his eighth win in a row at fourth singles, 7-5, 7-6 and also won second doubles 8-4 alongside sophomore
Noel Marrero (Bronx, NY/Lehman) who won third singles 6-1, 6-1.
Junior
Kyle Manson (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) improved to 5-1 on the year with a 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth singles and also won his third doubles match 8-2.
The Hawks (8-4) improved to 6-2 in the conference will close out their non-conference schedule with two road matches, first facing Drew University on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in Madison, NJ and then heading to Patchogue, NY on Sunday to face Saint Joseph's College for a 1:00 p.m. match.
