Flushing, NY – The Hunter College men's tennis season came to a close on Saturday morning when they were unable to dethrone the Baruch College Bearcats who won their fifth straight CUNY Athletic Conference Tournament Championship 8-1 in the CUNYAC Finals at the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
The Hawks fell behind early, trailing 3-0 following doubles and play and it wasn't long before the Bearcats (15-2) were able to take third and sixth singles to clinch the title and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Freshman
Roy Forberg (Brooklyn, NY/AOSR) was the only Hawks to earn a victory, fighting from back after losing the first set and taking the fourth singles match in the tiebreaker which was placed in lieu of a third set as Baruch had already scored enough points to win the match. Forberg won his match 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 to prevent the shutout.
Hunter finishes the season 10-6 and advanced to the CUNYAC finals for the first time in three years as the three seed. It was a successful season and with just one graduating senior, things look bright for the future of this program. Senior
Richard Wong (Bronx, NY/Lehman) finishes his four-year career with Hawks as a two-time CUNYAC Player of the Year, a First-Team All-Star and with 46-12 singles record, 43-9 in doubles play. In addition, Wong went 30-3 in CUNYAC Singles matches and 28-3 in CUNYAC doubles matches.
