Noel Marrero (Bronx, NY/Lehman) won his fourth singles match 6-1, 6-0 and his second doubles match 8-1 as the Hawks defeated the Cardinals of York College 8-1 in CUNY Athletic Conference men's tennis action Monday evening in Jamaica, NY.
Freshman
Jayquan Gooding (Woodside, NY/Cardozo) helped the Hawks sweep singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles, while junior
Jerome Guce (New City, NY/Ramapo) improved his season record to 5-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win a third singles. In only his second match of the season, junior
Kyle Manson (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) improved to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth singles.
Sophomore
Gian Arceo (Flushing, NY/Bayside) continued his win streak, winning his fourth in a row at sixth singles 6-0, 6-0. First singles was the final match to wrap up, with senior
Richard Wong (Bronx, NY/Lehman) picking up a hard fought 6-1, 6-2 match against sophomore
Deva Maharaj.
Guce and
Marrero teamed up for an 8-1 win at second doubles and the duo of
Wong and
Gooding took an 8-1 decision at first singles.
Following today's victory, the Hawks improve to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference. They will return to action on Thursday, when they travel to Purchase, NY to face Manhattanville for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference match.
