New York, NY – The Hunter women's fencing team were victorious on Friday, defeating Army by just one point, 14-13 in front of almost 200 spectators who were on hand for the 2009 Hunter Homecoming celebration with the bout held in the B4 Gymnasium of the Hunter Sportsplex.
The Hawks got a huge contribution from their sabre squad, winning 8-1 led by senior
Nicole Schirmer and junior
Stella Shifrin who each were unbeaten on the night. Then the foil team just pulled out a 5-4 win with senior
Christina Lio wining all three of her bouts. The Hawks lone point in epee, a win by sophomore
Mak, would prove to be the deciding point in the match.
The women's team will have a short rest as they will now prepare to take part in the NIWFA Christmas Invitational on Sunday, held at the Cobra Fencing Club in Jersey City, NJ.
