TEANECK, N.J. — The Hunter College women's fencing team turned in a resilient showing Sunday, splitting four dual meets at the Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational to secure a third-place finish in the five-team field.
The Hawks opened the day in commanding fashion, rolling past Yeshiva, 22–5, and followed up with another decisive win over Lafayette, 18–9. Hunter was then edged in a thriller against Stevens, as the outcome came down to a single bout in a narrow 14–13 setback. The Hawks closed the invitational with a loss to host Fairleigh Dickinson, which finished the day undefeated.
Across the four duals, Hunter's three weapon squads combined for 62 bout victories. The sabre squad paced the Hawks with three dual wins, highlighted by a perfect performance from
Kehinde Ayinde, who went unbeaten in all eight of her bouts.
Hunter's épée and foil squads each posted two dual victories.
Katherine Hanin delivered a strong effort in épée with six wins, while
Brean Tobin was the Hawks' top performer on the day, leading the foil squad with nine victories.
The Hawks will look to carry that momentum into their next competition Jan. 31 at the Eric Sollee Invitational in Waltham, Mass.
