POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The Hunter College women's fencing team turned in a strong performance at the Matt Lampell Invitational on Sunday, earning a third-place team finish at the annual event hosted by Vassar College. The competition featured 11 programs and included two rounds of pools followed by direct elimination in both team and squad formats.
Hunter excelled in the overall standings, placing third to secure a team plaque. The Hawks saw standout results across all three weapons, highlighted by a silver-medal finish in foil. The foil squad of junior Brean Tobin, Julia Stenger, Maya Nair and Gisselle Carino claimed second place after a consistent showing throughout the day.
In épée, senior Katherine Hanin, Betzabe Granados and Alice Yee teamed up for a third-place finish, giving Hunter its second squad podium of the invitational. The sabre squad of Kehinde Ayinde, Samantha Lin and Emily Rosas rounded out the day with a sixth-place finish in their weapon.
Tobin stood out as Hunter's top individual performer, dropping only one bout across all rounds of competition.
Hunter concluded the invitational with a third-place team finish, second place in foil, third in épée and sixth in sabre.
