Staten Island, NY – Facing each other for a third time this season to complete one match, the Hawks just came up short to the College of Staten Island, dropping fourth and fifth singles matches for a 5-4 loss, to finish the season ins second place in the CUNYAC and will now prepare for Brooklyn College in the Quarterfinals set for Tuesday, April 28.
This match originally began on April 14, but after doubles play, was suspended due to rain fall with the Dolphins up 2-1. Then on Saturday, April 18, both teams were able to get in three more matches, with Hunter sophomores
Roy Forberg and
Jayquan Gooding winning matches at second and third singles respectively to knot it up at 3-3. Today, the Hawk bench was unable to pick up the victory, despite a good win from sophomore
Ian Katz who picks up his fourth win of the season 6-2, 6-2.
The victory gives Staten Island the tiebreaker who finish the season 7-1 in CUNYAC play, the same as the Hawks. Staten Island will now play either York College or N.Y. City Tech, while the Hawks will face Brooklyn in Tuesday's Quarterfinal match.
Rounding out the rest of the postseason, the third-seeded John Jay Bloodhounds will host the sixth-seeded Lehman College, while the fourth-seeded and defending champion Baruch Bearcats will host The City College of New York.
If the Hawks are able to advance, they will face the winner of #3 John Jay/#6 Lehman, while the Dolphins will go up against the winter of #4 Baruch/#5 CCNY at Thursday's Semifinals at the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
