Hawks Advance to Semi’s
Defeat Brooklyn 5-0

Flushing, NY – The Hunter men's tennis team opened up post season play on Tuesday, defeating Brooklyn College 5-0 after winning all three doubles matches and earning victories at third and sixth singles to advance to the Semifinals of the 2009 CUNY Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.

In doubles action, the duo of sophomore Jayquan Gooding (Woodside, NY/Cardozo) and freshman Peter Stanciu (New York, NY, Locust Valley) took first doubles 8-0, followed by sophomore Roy Forberg (Brooklyn, NY/AOSR) and freshman Andres Gonzalez (Hastings, NY/Hastings) winning second doubles 8-3. The third doubles match was much closer, but the “X-Factor” team of junior Noel Marrero (Bronx, NY/Lehman) and sophomore Ian Katz (Woodside, NY/American Studies) were able to pull out the 8-6 victory.

Then in singles, Forberg earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the third slot to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead. Gonzalez would then close out the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win of his own at sixth singles.

The Hawks will now face the winner of third-seeded John Jay vs. sixth-seeded Lehman College on Thursday, April 30 at 4:00 p.m. at the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
