Hawks Defeat Baruch for First Time Since 2003

Flushing, NY – Not able to catch a break on the weather, the Hawks were back at the USTA Tennis Center on Tuesday competing in cold and windy conditions, but were able to pull out a big upset, defeating the five-time CUNYAC Champion Baruch College Bearcats for the first time since April 6, 2003 by the same score of 7-2.

The victory improves the Hawks to 8-1 on the season and 6-0 in conference play.

Hunter opened the match strong by winning all three doubles matches. They then clinched the match with victories by freshman Max Segan at first singles, sophomore Jayquan Gooding at second singles, freshman Peter Alex Stanciu at fourth singles and junior Noel Marrero at fifth singles.

"This was a good win, but there is still plenty of work to be done," stated head coach Eric Metzger. "We need to begin preparing now so that we can be successful the rest of the season and in the postseason."

Hunter will look to keep the conference streak going on Thursday when they travel to Jamaica, NY for a match with the Cardinals of York College at 4:00 p.m.
