Men's Tennis Streak Reaches Five, Beat Bulldogs 9-0

Brooklyn, NY – The Hunter College men's tennis team won their fifth straight to begin the 2010 season with a 9-0 victory over host Brooklyn College in Brooklyn, NY.

The Hawks duo of freshmen Yevgeny Perepelov (Brooklyn, NY/Keystone National) and senior Noel Marrero (Bronx, NY/Lehman) won their first doubles match by a score of 8-2. At second doubles sophomore Alex Stanciu (New York, NY/Locust Valley) and freshmen Arthur Kapetanakis (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) teamed up for an 8-0 victory. At third singles sophomore Mark Goldfinger (New York, NY/School of the Future) and senior Gian Arceo (Flushing, NY/Bayside) combined for an 8-3 victory.

At first singles Perepelov defeated Johnny Rolando 6-0, 6-0 to increase his season record to 2-0. Stanciu defeated Vesna Tan at second singles 6-1, 6-0 to remain undefeated on the year. At third singles Marrero defeated Kristoffer Flores 6-0, 6-2 to pick up his third victory this season. Kapetanakis picked up his fourth victory this year y defeating Jeffrey Deng 6-0, 6-1 at fourth singles. At fifth singles Ian Katz (Woodside, NY/American Studies) defeated Judah Hirsch 6-0, 6-1 to pick up his fourth straight win after dropping his first match of the season. Wrapping up the scoring at sixth singles Louis Cruz (Bronx, NY/F.L.A.G.S.) defeated Qing Hui Tan 6-0, 6-1 for his third straight win after dropping his first match of the year.

The Hawks stand at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in CUNYAC play and will next be in action on Saturday when they will travel to face the Beavers of CCNY (1-0) at 11:30 a.m. on Roosevelt Island.
