Flushing, NY – The Hunter men's and women's tennis teams were in action on Wednesday, hosting Drew University and it would be the Rangers who came out victorious on both fronts, taking 9-0 decisions over the Hawks at the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
For the men's team, second and third doubles were two exciting matches. The duo of freshmen
Arthur Kapetanakis (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) and
Louis Cruz (Bronx, NY/F.L.A.G.S.) had a tight match with Alex Belfiore and Matt Brisotti, falling 8-6. Then in third doubles, senior
Noel Marrero (Bronx, NY/Lehman) and sophomore
Mark Goldfinger (New York, NY/School of the Future) were able to force an extra game before dropped their match 9-7.
In singles action,
Kapetanakis stepped into the second spot with two starters not present and battled it out with Matt Brisotti for an intense 7-5 loss in the first set before dropping the second set 6-2. Sophomore
Ian Katz (Woodside, NY/American Studies) also put up a good fight in his sixth singles match, but would end up losing 6-3, 6-4.
Hunter's men team falls to 8-2 on the year and will now look towards Friday, when they host rival Baruch College in a key CUNY Athletic Conference match at the USTA Center at 3:30 p.m.
