Purchase, NY – Freshman
Yevgeny Perepelov (Brooklyn, NY/Keystone National) earned the team's only victory of the day as the Hawks drop their first match of the season to non-conference foe Manhattanville College, 8-1 on Friday afternoon in Purchase, NY.
The Hawks found themselves trailing 3-0 after doubles play, despite a great match from the duo of
Perepelov and fellow freshman standout
Arthur Kapetanakis (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) who lost 9-7.
Things then started to heat up in singles action, with
Perepelov defeating Julian Oribe 6-1, 6-0 at first singles. In an exciting second singles match, sophomore
Alex Stanciu (New York, NY/Locust Valley) recovered from a 6-2 first set, by winning the second 7-6 (7-1), but then fell in the tiebreaker 11-9 at second singles.
At fourth singles,
Kapetanakis grabbed the first set 7-6 (7-3), but would end up losing the second set 6-4 and the tiebreaker 10-5 for his first singles loss of the year.
Hunter (7-1, 4-0 CUNYAC) return to conference play on Saturday, when they play John Jay College for a Noon match with the 4-0 Bloodhounds at the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
