Hawks to Host Medgar Evers in CUNYAC Quarterfinals

New York, NY - The men's volleyball team is set to take on the Cougars of Medgar Evers College in the quarterfinal round of the CUNYAC Championship Tournament on Tuesday, March 22 at 6:00 pm at the Hunter Sportsplex.

Hunter (16-15, 12-2 CUNYAC), who closed out the regular season with just two conference losses, earned the #2 seed while the Cougars, who are currently 3-19, 0-14 CUNYAC with three more matches to go, secured the #7 seed.

Head Coach Ray Bello is no stranger to the conference tournament as his teams have reached the final in every season since taking the reigns of the program in 2004. He has three Championships under his belt in a long tradition of successful teams as Hunter has won 14 titles since 1987 when the sport was sponsored by the conference. "We have to be on point if we're going to make it back to the finals" Bello says of his team. "We have a very young squad, but I'm confident we'll be on top of our game."

Junior Eric Barty and sophomore Braien Otsla have provided most of the offense for the Hawks as they have a combined 649 kills. Sophomore John Gemegah is a vital part of the defense as shown in his 67 total blocks on the year while Marcin Polak has been a versatile player, contributing on each end of the game. Freshman Stanley Martinez has been a consistent, reliable setter and is just 43 assists away from eclipsing the 1,000 assist mark.
