Hawks Earn 5-4 Victory At John Jay

New York, NY-- The Hunter College men's tennis team returned to action on Friday, April 8, as they defeated the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in a close match-up, 5-4.

On the singles side, both teams posted three victories with Luis Quintero (6-3, 6-0), Mark Goldfinger (6-1, 6-1), and Stanislav Tsoy (6-1, 6-0) each recording wins at first, third and sixth singles respectively.

Meanwhile both Arthur Kapetanakis and Binh Luu put forth strong efforts, narrowly missing out on wins, with scores of 6-1, 4-6, 7-5, and 5-7, 6-0, 10-8 respectively. Robert Frischling competed in the final singles match for the Hawks falling to his John Jay counterpart 6-4, 6-0.

After splitting the victories in singles competition, the Hawks came out strong in doubles play, with Quintero and Goldfinger earning a 9-7 victory in the No. 1 position, while Frischling and Tsoy claimed an 8-4 win in the No. 3 spot.  In the No. 2 doubles match-up, Kapetanakis and Luu were denied the win, despite a solid effort, falling 9-8 (7-4).

The Hawks will compete next on April 12, when they take on Manhattanville College at 3:30pm.
