Box Score

New York- The Hunter College men's tennis team celebrated their second consecutive CUNYAC championship, after defeating Baruch 5-2, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Thursday, May 5.

The Hawks got off on the right foot against the top-seeded Bearcats, taking two of the three matches in doubles competition. In the No. 1 doubles match, Yevegeny Perepelov and Luis Quintero took a quick 8-2 victory over their Baruch counterparts, Christopher Jenkins and Phillip Bleustein. After Roy Forberg and Arthur Kapetanakis were defeated in the No. 2 spot 8-6, Thomas Lin and Mark Goldfinger battled back from a 6-3 deficit to earn the Hawks second win of the day, 8-6.

From there, the Hawks focused their attention on singles competition, where Goldfinger quickly added another win to Hunter's total, defeating Brian Adler handedly in the No. 6 match-up (6-1, 6-0).

Hunter would earn another point in the No. 2 flight, where Quintero took a 6-3, 5-0 victory after Baruch's Lukas Bircic was forced to concede due to a foot injury.

The Hawks would claim their fifth and final point in the No. 5 singles matchup, courtesy of a hard fought (7-5, 2-6, 6-3) victory from Lin over Aliaksei Misitau.

The No. 4 and No. 1 match-ups of Kapetanakis and Phillip Bleustein, and Perepelov and Christopher Jenkins did not reach a conclusion since the necessary points for Hunter to claim the victory had already been reached.

Stephan Muller captured Baruch's only singles win of the day, defeating Forberg in the No. 4 flight, 6-2, 6-1.

Quintero was named tournament MVP after claiming both a victory in singles and pairing with Perepelov, the 2010 tournament MVP, for a doubles win.

The Hawks will now represent CUNYAC in the NCAA National Championships which are set to take place next week, with the seeding to be announced on Monday, 9.
