Women's Sabre RESULTS
NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter College men's and women's fencing team competed at the US Collegiate Squad Championships on Sunday where the men's foil team finished 16th while the women's sabre and epee divisions registered respective 14th and 17th placehttp://huntercollegeathletics.com/admin/admin_main.aspx finishes at the event hosted by New York University.
On the men's side, the Hawks lost 42-34 against Stevens Tech to finish 16th in the foil division.
Justin Lokossou scored 10 points but failed to win a bout while
Nicholas Burney scored 12 points and earned a 7-2 victory over Eric Yang.
Alexis Chavez rounded out the squad and picked up 12 points as well but failed to win a bout in the division loss.
The women's epee team finished 17th after suffering a 45-21 loss against Stevens Tech.
Wendy Mak went 1-2 in her bouts, scoring eight points.
Irene Yenko tallied eigh points as well but failed to win a bout while
Samantha Li rounded out the squad with five points.
Hunter's women's sabre team was defeated 45-30 by Northwestern University to settle in 14th place.
Jillian Melnick went 2-1 on the day, winning her first bout over Claire Carson, 9-4 before beating Annelise Eeman, 8-5. Melnick suffered a narrow 5-4 loss in her final bout against Chloe Grainger.
Monica Yuen registered six points but failed to win a bout while
Natalia Dittren scored three points for the Hawks.
The women's team returns to action next Saturday, March 3 when they head to Swathmore, PA to compete in the NIWFA Championships. The men's team will compete on Sunday, March 4 when they head to the Cobra Fencing Club in Jersey City to compete in the MACFA Championships.
