BROOKLYN, NY - The Hunter College men's tennis team won its sixth-straight match on Friday evening as it bounced Brooklyn College, 7-2 at the Roosevelt Courts.
Hunter improves to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the CUNYAC while Brooklyn drops to 1-5 and 0-3 in the league.
At first doubles,
Arthur Kapetanakis and
Irving Salazar were pefect, defeating Matthew Micharlsen and Marvin Gill, 8-0. An 8-6 victory for the Hawks followed at second doubles as
Damen Ellingson and
Robert Frischling-Sosman won while Brooklyn claimed a default victory in the third slot to make it, 2-1 in Hunter's favor.
The Hawks took definitive control of the match with strong singles play. Kapetanakis dominated Matthew Micharlsen by scores of 6-0 and 6-1 to claim the win at first singles. Ellingson followed suit in the second doubles match, dropping Robin Varughese, 6-1 and 6-4 before Frischling-Sosman beat Michael Martone 7-5 and 6-3 in the third singles contest. Salazaar continued the winning trend for Hunter as he handed Gill 6-3 and 6-0 losses in the fourth match while
Stanislav Tsoy defeated Deshi Wu, 6-4 in two sets to make it a 7-1 affair. Another forfeit victory at the sixth singles slot would account for the 7-2 final.
Hunter returns to action on Tuesday, April 3rd when they host rival Baruch College at 3:30pm. The match will be played at the USTA National Tennis Center.
