BRONX, NY - The John Jay College men's tennis team knocked off Hunter, 6-3 on Saturday morning at the Lehman College Tennis Complex.
With the loss, Hunter drops to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in the CUNYAC. Conversely, John Jay improves to 6-3 and 5-0 in the league.
The Bloodhounds got off to an early start, grabbing two wins at first and third doubles. The Hawk tandem of
Damen Ellingson and
Irving Salazar topped Andreas Pantaloukas and Kelvin Rodriguez, 9-7 to make it a 2-1 contest.
Arthur kapetanakis dropped a 6-0, 6-1 match to Erkut Cakmak at first singles but Ellingson responded at second singles. Ellingson won the first set 6-1 before dropping the second 6-3 only to respond with a 7-6 win in the third to take the match. Robert Frischling Sosman also nabbed a victory at third singles, knocking off Luis Chirinos, 6-2 and 6-1 to give Hunter it's third win of the day.
Unfortunately, John Jay won the next three matches as
Irving Salazar,
Stanislav Tsoy and
Binh Luu each suffered defeats at fourth, fifth and sixth singles.
Hunter will take on Springfield College on Tuesday, April 17th at the USTA National Tennis Center at 5:00pm.
