FLUSHING, NY - The Hunter College men's tennis team rebounded from a rare midweek loss to trounce the visiting College of Staten Island Dolphins, 8-1 at the USTA National Tennis Center on Thursday evening.
Hunter improved to 7-1 and 5-1 in the CUNYAC while CSI fell to 2-5 and 1-2 in the league.
The Hawks surged ahead behind strong doubles play as
Arthur Kapetanakis and
Luis Quintero teamed up to beat Nicholas Zikos and Daniel Ursomanno, 9-7 at first doubles.
Yevgeny Perepelov and
Robert Frischling-Sosman kept the Hawks rolling with a convincing 8-1 win at second doubles, knocking off Riad Hamai and Austin Kapetanakis before
Damen Ellingson and
Irving Salazar closed out third doubles with a 8-3 win against Oscar Wu and Dmitriy Vituk.
The Hawks won the first two singles matches as Perepelov handed Zikos 6-1 and 6-3 defeats then Quintero bested Hamai, 6-1 and 6-3 to put Hunter ahead by a 5-0 tally. The Dolphins' lone victory on the day came in the third singles slot as Ursomanno defeated Kapetanakis in three sets. Kapetanakis won the first 6-2 but the Dolphin took the second set 6-3 and then the third 10-3 to win the match.
Hunter got back on track at five and six as Frischling-Sosman defeated Wu, 6-0 and 6-2 ahead of Salazar who handled Vituk, 6-0 and 6-2 to give Hunter the 8-1 win in today's contest.
Hunter will be absent from competition until next Wednesday, April 11th when they travel to Salisbury for a 3:00pm match.
