The #4 seeded Hunter men's tennis team advanced to the CUNYAC semifinals on Sunday, as the Hawks downed York, 5-1 in a quarterfinal match at the U.S. National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. Hunter will face top seeded Baruch on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the semifinals.
Hunter jumped on the Cardinals from the start, claiming the doubles point with a pair of dominating wins at the No. 1 and No.3 spots. After Daniel Rabinovich and Paul Saint-Donat blanked Michael Benavidez and Anthony Omoragbon, 8-0 at the No. 3 spot, Hunter picked up their second point when
Yevgeny Perepelov and David Joseph posted an 8-1 win over Ayman Busat & Gary Reynoso at the No. 1 spot.
York defeated Hunter's duo of
Damen Ellingson and
Binh Luu 9-7 at the No. 2 spot heading into singles play.
With a 2-1 lead, Hunter went on to win three singles matches to advance in the CUNYAC tournament.
Yevgeny Perepelov won at the No. 1 spot (6-0, 6-1), David Joseph won at the No.2 spot (6-4, 6-3), and Daniel Rabinovich won at the No. 4 spot (6-0, 6-0) to seal the victory for the Hawks.
Hunter's 5-1 win on Friday marked the Hawks' second win over York this season.
