NYU/LIU-Post Results
NEW YORK, NY-,The Hunter Hawks wrestling team earned two victories on Saturday against LIU-Post & NYU, at the NYU Tri-Match. The Hawks improve their record to 6-1 on the season.
Hunter 26 LIU-Post 20The Hawks started off the match with
Kenny Albert winning in the 125lb match by technical fall 18-3 and then in the 141lb match,
Cary Palmer continued his amazing start to the season defeating Jesse Meany 11-0, by major decision.
Nick Wilkie won a tremendous triple overtime match at 4-3 at 157lb.
Jesse Bader continued the Hawks success with another technical fall to put the Hawks up 17-9.
The Hawks forfeit at 174lb & 184lb to tie the score 20-20. For the second time in less than 24 hours,
Patryk Kopczynski was set to wrestle to decide the outcome of the match and just like Friday night against Centenary, the junior won his match at 285lb, this time by pin giving the Hawks a 26-20 victory. .
Hunter 19 NYU 17The Hawks once again started off the match with Albert winning a 7-3 decision at 125lb. After dropping the 133lb match, Palmer got the Hawks back on track with an 8-7 decision at 141lb. Wilkie would defeat his opponent at 157lb and Declan Grey would win by major decision at 165lb.Â
"Both Declan and Nick really stepped up to the plate," said head coach
Chris Mazzatta. "Their victories were crucial for us in securing the victory today."
After taking losses at 174 and 184,
Dennis Melendez would win a 13-8 decision, against NYU's nationally ranked 197lb wrestler. Melendez's victory brought the score to 17-16 NYU, with his thrid victory of the weekend, he secured a dual win, once again setting the stage for Kopczynski to earn the victory for the Hawks.
And just like the previous two matches, he wouldn't disappoint winning a  6-4 overtime decision to clinch the Hawks 19-17 victory over the previously undefeated Violets.Â
The Hawks return to action Saturday December 13 when they will take part in the Mariner Duals on the campus of US Merchant Marine Academy.
