Men's Tennis Sweeps CCNY; Drops To Oneonta State

The Hunter men's tennis team swept CCNY 9-0 on Friday evening at the USTA National Tennis Center.
 
The Hawks got of to a great start in the doubles competition dominating all three sets. No.1 pair Gonzalo Saez-Garcia & Carlos Saavedra won 8-0. No. 2 pair Michael Kuznetsov & David Joseph won 8-1 and no. 3 pair Yogendra Sandasse & Rudy Saint-Louis won 8-1.
 
In singles, no. 1 singles Saez-Garcia defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-2. No. 2 singles Carlos Saavedra and no. 6 singles Daryl Vega won their sets 6-0, 6-0.
 
No. 3 singles Kuznetsov won his match 6-1, 6-0 as did no. 4 Sandasse and no. 5 Saint-Louis.
 
Saturday afternoon the Hawks returned to the USTA National Tennis Center to take on Oneonta State. The Hawks lost 9-0.
 
Oneonta dominated the doubles competition, winning all three matches 8-2.
 
Oneonta also controlled the singles competition. Hawks no. 1 singles Garcia-Saez lost 4-6, 1-6. No. 3 singles Saavedra lost 1-6, 2-6 and no 4. Alex Shahban lost his match 2-6, 1-6.
 
No. 5 singles Sundasse lost his match 1-6, 0-6 and no. 6 singles Kuznetsov lost his match 0-6, 1-6.
 
The most competitive match of the day was no. 2 singles. Joseph won the first set 6-3 but then lost the second set 6-2. The third set was back and forth but ultimately won by Mackenzie Park 7-6 (7-5).
 
The Hawks fall to 6-2. They return to action Wednesday when they take on CUNY rival John Jay. The match is set to begin at 12pm.
