Men's Tennis Dominates John Jay; Falls To Baruch

The men's tennis team split against CUNY foes John Jay College and Baruch College to wrap up CUNYAC regular season play.
 
The Hawks took on John Jay Wednesday night at the USTA National Tennis Center and defeated the Bloodhounds 8-1.
 
The Hawks began the competition by sweeping doubles. No.1 doubles, Gonzalo Saez-Garcia and Carlos Saavedra won their match 8-1 as did no. 2 doubles, David Joseph and Michael Kuznetsov. No. 3 doubles match also went 8-1 in favor of the Hawks with Alex Shahban and Yogendra Sandasse in that slot.
 
In singles competition, no. 1 singles Saez-Garcia won his match 6-0, 6-0. No.2 singles match went to a tiebreaker in the 2nd set with Joseph winning the match 6-0, 7-6 (8-6) for the Hawks. No. 3 singles, Saavedra, No. 5 singles, Sandasse and no. 6 singles Kuznetsov won their matches 6-0, 6-1. No. 4 singles Alex Shahban was the only Hawk to drop his match, falling 0-6, 1-6.
 
On Thursday afternoon the Hawks hosted Baruch College at the USTA National Tennis Center but lost a close match 5-4.
 
The Hawks started off slowly by dropping 2-of-3 in the doubles competition. No. 3 doubles pair of Shahban and Kuznetsov was the only victors, winning 8-3.
 
In singles, no. 1 and no. 2 singles for the Hawks were victorious with Saez-Garcia winning 6-2, 6-2 and Joseph winning 6-3, 6-4. No. 6 singles Sandasse also won his match 6-4, 6-1.
 
The Hawks wrap up CUNYAC play with an overall record of 7-3 and a 6-1 record in CUNYAC play. The next Hunter men's tennis match will be Tuesday April 22nd against Springfield College at 6pm.
