#1 Hawks Move On To CUNYAC Championships

Hawks Will Face Off Against Baruch On Thursday April 30

FLUSHING, NY - The Hunter men's tennis team advanced to the CUNYAC Finals with a 5-0 defeat of John Jay College on Sunday afternoon. The no. 1 seeded Hawks move on to the Finals to face rival Baruch College, a team the Hawks beat 7-2 10 days ago on April 17th.

The Hawks began by sweeping the doubles competition, first taking the #3 matchup with Jay Pal and Rodolfo Reynoso defeating their counterparts 8-0. A few moments later, #1 pair of Gonzalo Saez Garcia and Florimond Le Goupil-Maier won their matchup 8-2 and then closing out the sweep was the #2 paring of Carlos Sala and Matthew Balilo who won their matchup 8-1.

Needing two more victories in the singles competition to wrap up a spot in the finals, the Hawks wasted no time. In the #6 matchup, Pal dispatched his foe in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 giving the Hawks a 4-0 lead. The next match to wrap up was at #1 singles when Saez Garcia got the clinching victory with another straight set 6-0, 6-0 victory.

The Hawks and Bearcats met in last seasons CUNYAC Finals, so the Hawks are looking to avenge last year's loss and claim the program's first Men's Tennis title since winning in back-to-back years in 2010 & 2011.
