Edgewater, NJ - The men's tennis team opened up their 2016 campaign against Yeshiva on Sunday. Coming out of doubles in a 3-0 hole, the Hawks were unable to recover and were only able to snag one of six singles matches, ultimately falling by a final score of 8-1. The loss drops the Hawks to 0-1.
Florimond Le Goupil-Maier and
Carlos Sala were outmatched at top flight singles by Yeshiva's David Papis Elon and Mikey Ozery by a score of 8-2.
Ard Pula and
Filip Koritysskiy suffered a similar fate with an 8-3 loss while
Gonzalo Saez Garcia and
David Joseph put up a tough fight but were unable to come away with a win, falling 8-6.
At third singles, Sala was the lone winner as he defeated Ozery in three, 7-6, 6-7, 12-10 to prevent Hunter from being blanked. Saez Garcia gave Papis Elon a run for his money but was downed 6-4, 6-3 at top flight singles. Le Goupil-Maier was outplayed 6-4, 6-1 at second singles while
David Joseph lost by the same score at fourth singles.
Anthony Stefanidis and Koritysskiy were unable to secure a win at fifth and sixth singles as well.
The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, March 16 when they take on CCNY in their CUNYAC season opener.
