Flushing, NY – The men's tennis team made quick work of Brooklyn College yesterday as they defeated the Bulldogs 9-0. The win pushes the Hawks out to 7-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play as they wrap up the regular season.
Florimond Le Goupil-Maier and
Nasser Ghaffar made quick work of their opponents at top flight doubles with an 8-1 win while
Filip Koritysskiy and
Hamza Sadhra won with the same score at third doubles.
Joel Cantila and
David Joseph completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win over their opponents at second doubles.
Ghaffar, Le Goupil-Maier and Cantila each swept their counterparts at first, second and third singles respectively, 6-0, 6-0. Albert Benjamin pushed Joseph in the first set at fourth singles, but prevailed 7-5 and bounced back with a solid second, 6-1.
Ryan Hwang had a similar outcome at sixth doubles as he defeated Kevin Gryka, 7-5, 6-0. Koritysskiy emerged victorious at fifth singles, 6-2, 6-3.
The win secures the #2 seed and a first round bye in the conference tournament which will begin later this week. The game marked the end of the regular season. The Hawks were original scheduled to play Drew on Tuesday, April 25 but the game was cancelled due to rain.
