New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's indoor track and field team placed second at the CUNYAC Championship at the Armory with a total of 137 team points.
Medgar-Evers beat out the Hawks for the top spot with 151.5 points, while Lehman (79.5) grabbed third, followed by CCNY (74) and York.
Hunter grabbed several top-three finishes in the meet including multiple gold medals.
Mateo Penafield led the Hawks with two first place finishes. He won men's mile with a time of 4:49.86, followed by
Brian Guillermo in second who clocked in at 4:50.34. Penafiel also was the meet's top finisher in the 3000 meter race at 9:57.34, as Hunter completed a podium sweep in the event with
Alexander Niyazov in second with a time of 9:59.38, followed by Guillermo in third (10:10.06).
Guillermo grabbed his third individual medal with a first place finish in the 800 meter race, clocking in at 2:11.02, as he was trailed by
Harrison Abarca in second (2:19.96). The Hawks' Distance Medley Relay team also finished first in 11:46.74 comprised of Niyazov,
Conor Sullivan, Guillermo, and Penafiel.
Hunter took the top two pots in the 60 meter dash to round out track scoring with
Hamza Elsherbiny in first (7.7), followed by
Jocsan Crespo (7.89).
In the field, Jonathan Cauchi took gold in the shot put with a mark of 11.85m.
Hunter continues it season on March 2 for the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Indoor Championships.
