ROCHESTER, N.Y.- The Hunter College wrestling team competed at the NYS Collegiate Championships, winning 22 bouts on the day, the most of Coach
Pete Jacobson's tenure.
Freshman
Alimkhan Guseinov led the Hawks with a run to the 197-lb championship finals in the Frosh/Soph Division, earning All-State honors. Guseinov went 3–1 on the day, opening with an 18–3 tech fall at 6:54 over Cortland's Paul Harley. He followed with two high-amplitude throws to defeat Alfred State's Hunter Lavigne, 8–6, before grinding out a 6–4 semifinal win over Brockport's Luke Herendeen. Guseinov fell in the championship bout to Cortland's Nick Rose, finishing as New York State runner-up.
At 149 lbs in the Frosh/Soph bracket, freshman
Christopher Gliaos delivered one of Hunter's most impressive individual outings, going 4–2 with four bonus-point victories. Gliaos opened with a 16–1 tech fall in just 4:03 over Albany's David Argyros before narrowly dropping a 6–5 decision to Onondaga's Darik Soucia in a match decided in the final seconds. He responded with a 3:32 fall over USMMA's Lucas Maneckshaw, a 20–8 major decision against Oneonta's Jason Kelly, and a 13–4 major over Utica's Sean Aldrich. His run ended against Oswego's Donovan Rail.
Sophomore
Martin Palomeque posted a 3–2 record in the Open Division at 157 lbs. After an injury default victory in his opener, Palomeque rebounded from a loss to USMMA's Logan Weaver with a gritty 11–9 decision over Cortland's Shane Walczyk and a dominant 15–9 major decision against Oneonta's Ocean Rados.
Freshman
Jordan Fisher also earned three wins in the Frosh/Soph 165-lb bracket. Fisher began his day with a 32-second pin of Elmira's Cache Littrell, then rallied from a loss to Jamestown's Evan Leonard with a 16–10 decision over Oswego's Collin Monell and a 17–9 major decision over Alfred State's Christian Warren.
At 184 lbs, freshman
Naseer Johnson recorded two victories, pinning Cortland's Ansar Omarov at 6:38 and later advancing via medical forfeit against Oneonta's Gabriel Camillieri.
Sophomore
Isaiah Harris added two falls at 165 lbs, pinning RPI's Xavier Paul-Smith at 4:07 and producing one of the team's fastest wins of the tournament — a 52-second fall over Albany's Savoia Richie.
Also earning victories for the Hawks were
Jayden Medina (149 lbs),
Jack Kent (165 lbs),
Kenan Djokic (141 lbs),
Anthony Coccarelli (157 lbs) and
Hayden Roy (285 lbs). Kent's win came in dramatic fashion, battling back from a 7–0 deficit to score 12 unanswered points before pinning Cortland's Gavin Seiler at 3:31.
Hunter entered the tournament with 17 wrestlers competing across all weight classes:
