Hawks Defeat Lehman 9-0 in CUNYAC Opener

Box Score

Bronx, NY – Sophomore Alex Stanciu (New York, NY/Locust Valley) helped grabbed a 6-0, 6-2 win at first singles and an 8-2 win at first doubles to help give the Hawks a 9-0 victory over Lehman College in CUNY Athletic Conference men's tennis action on Thursday at the APEX in the Bronx, NY.

Sophomore Ian Katz (Woodside, NY/American Studies) and freshman Arthur Kapetanakis (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead after taking their second doubles match 8-0. Then the duo of senior Noel Marrero (Bronx, NY/Lehman) and freshman Louis Cruz (Bronx, NY/F.L.A.G.S.) took third doubles 8-1, while junior Roy Forberg (Brooklyn, NY/AOSR) and Stanciu put the Hawks up 3-0 with an 8-2 win at first doubles.

Marrero was the first to finish in singles play, defeating sophomore Larry Harvey 6-0, 6-3. Then Stanciu's win over freshman David Chang gave Hunter the deciding fifth team point for the match victory.

Sophomore Mark Goldfinger (New York, NY/School of the Future) then picked up his sixth singles match, 6-0, 6-2, over freshman Marcus Coto-Batres. Since Lehman only has five courts, Forberg's second singles match got a late start, but it didn't take him long to wrap up a 6-0, 6-0 win over freshman Dean Garcia. Cruz and Katz closed out the match with wins at fourth and fifth singles.

Hunter (2-0, 1-0 CUNYAC) will now host N.Y. City Tech (0-1, 0-1 CUNYAC) on Saturday for a Noon conference match at the USTA Center in Flushing, NY.
