Newburgh, NY – The Hunter College Men's Tennis team continued their perfect 2010 campaign with a 9-0 victory over host Mount Saint Mary's College Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Cronomer Park in Newburgh, NY.
The Hawks swept doubles play, with the team of seniors Ian Katz (Woodside, NY/American Studies) and Noel Marrero (Bronx, NY/Lehman) winning at first doubles 8-4. Then at second doubles the freshmen duo of Arthur Kapetanakis (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) and Louis Cruz (Bronx, NY/F.L.A.G.S.) teamed up to win 8-2. Then teaming up at third doubles senior Gian Arceo (Flushing, NY/Bayside) teamed up with sophomore Mark Goldfinger (New York, NY/School of the Future) to defeat their third doubles counterpart from Mount Saint Mary's 8-3.
At first singles sophomore Alex Stanciu (New York, NY/Locust Valley) defeated Mike McNicholas 6-1, 6-1 to improve to 2-0 on the year. Playing at second singles junior Roy Forberg (Brooklyn, NY/ AOSR) defeated Ian Jackson by a score of 6-2, 6-0 to improve to 2-0 on the year. At third singles Kapetanakis defeated John Como 6-2, 6-2 to pick up his third win on the year. Freshman Irving Salazar (Corona, NY/John Bowne) continued his perfect start to his singles career with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Brian Cangemi. Sophomore Binh Luu (Bayside, NY/Cardozo) finished up the scoring with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at sixth singles over Matt D'Angelico.
Hunter 4-0 (2-0 CUNYAC) will now travel to face conference foe Brooklyn College (0-1) on Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. match in Brooklyn, NY.
