Flushing, NY – After suffering their first loss of the season on Friday night, the Hunter men's tennis team rebounded with a 7-2 victory over John Jay College on Saturday to improve to 5-0 in conference play, 8-1 on the year.
The Hawks put themselves in a good position early on by winning all three doubles matches. The young and talented duo of freshmen
Yevgeny Perepelov (Brooklyn, NY/Keystone National) and
Arthur Kapetanakis (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) took down John Jay's top team 8-1. At second doubles, junior
Roy Forberg (Brooklyn, NY/AOSR) and sophomore
Alex Stanciu (New York, NY/Locust Valley) had a closer bout, but still came out on top 8-4. In third doubles, the tandem of senior
Noel Marrero (Bronx, NY/Lehman) and sophomore
Ian Katz (Woodside, NY/American Studies) grabbed an easy 8-0 victory.
Perepelov got things going in singles action, defeating Josh Pagan 6-1, 6-2 at the top spot.
Forberg was victorious over Ben Jorgensen 6-3, 6-3 at third singles, while
Kapetanakis improved to 7-1 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Stephen Walz at fourth singles. The Hawks final win of the day came at sixth singles as freshman
Irving Salazar (Corona, NY/John Bowne) grabbed a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Hunter (8-1, 5-0 CUNYAC) will be back in action on Wednesday, when they host Drew University for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference match at the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
