Arthur Kapetanakis (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) found himself trailing 3-0 in the first set of his fourth singles match against Ben Jorgensen, but rallied back to win the set 7-2 in the tiebreaker and then won the second set 6-4 to clinch a 5-2 victory over third-seeded John Jay College and send the Hawks to the CUNYAC Championship match where they will face the top-seeded College of Staten Island on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
Teaming up for the first time this season, sophomore
Alex Stanciu (New York, NY/Locust Valley) and freshman
Yevgeny Perepelov (Brooklyn, NY/Keystone National) defeated Dong Shao and Stephen Walz 8-1 at first doubles to give the Hawks 1-0 lead. The Bloodhounds then tied things up when Josh Pagan and Jorgensen defeated the young tandem of freshmen

Louis Cruz (Bronx, NY/F.L.A.G.S.) 8-4 at second doubles. Then at third doubles, junior
Roy Forberg (Brooklyn, NY/AOSR) and sophomore
Ian Katz (Woodside, NY/American Studies) earned an 8-4 win over Derrick Chung and Tim Smith to give Hunter a 2-1 match lead heading into singles action.
Forberg gave the Hawks a 3-1 lead with an easy 6-0, 6-1 win at third singles over Walz. However, John Jay grabbed a win at fifth singles. Then Perepelov handed Shao his first loss of the season, defeating the former second singles player 6-3, 6-2, followed by Kapetanakis for the victory.
The Hawks (14-3) will make their third consecutive championship match appearance on Thursday, meeting Staten Island for the first time since the conference changed to a team championship format in 2005. The Dolphins advanced on Tuesday with a 5-2 win over Baruch College.
