QUEENS, NY - The Hunter men's tennis team clinched the CUNYAC Regular Season title with an 7-2 victory over Baruch College at Cunningham Park on Friday night. The win puts the Hawks at 8-3 overall and 6-1 in CUNYAC play.
The Hawks won all three doubles matchups for the sixth time in seven CUNYAC matches this season. In the #2 doubles matchup,
Carlos Sala and
Rodolfo Reynoso won their third straight match, winning, 8-2 followed by
Matthew Balilo and
Jay Pal winning their matchup 8-3 at #3 doubles.
Gonazlo Saez Garcia and
Florimond Le Goupil-Maier battled their way to an 8-5 victory at #1 doubles.

The Hawks won 5-of-6 singles matchups, starting with a straight set victory at #3, with Le Goupil-Maier dispatching of his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Sala would win his matchup at #2 in straight sets 6-0, 6-1, followed by Saez Garcia extending his unbeaten CUNYAC singles streak to 17 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
Matthew Balilo won at #4 singles to give the Hawks a 7-2 victory.
"I'm happy for our guys," said head coach
Eric Metzger. "We are playing our best tennis right now but we aren't going to settle just for the regular season title. We need to remain hungry and not get complacent with tonight's victory."
