As both a player and coach, Cesar Markovic easily ranks as one of the best in the history of the men’s soccer program. He was a four-year standout as the squad’s defensive leader. In 1987, he helped the Hawks win their first-ever CUNYAC Championship as they compiled a 13-2-2 record. As a senior in 1990, Markovic moved to offense and was the team’s leading scorer with seven goals and six assists. Following a professional career in South America, he returned to coach the Hawks from 1995-99 and presided over the most successful era in the teams’ history. His squads won three CUNYAC championships in 1995, 1997, and 1999. He put the exclamation point on his legacy by guiding the squad to it’s first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament in 1999, advancing to the second round. Markovic career coaching record at Hunter was 58-26-6.
