Hunter College Athletics

A four-year varsity letter winner from 1955-59 under Hunter College Hall of Fame coach Frank Egan, Joe Beerman set the school record in the 60-yard dash (6.4 seconds) in 1959, which was at the Metropolitan Municipal College Indoor Championship. He was instrumental in starting the “Spike Shoe Club,” which is composed of track alumni to promote the sport and the college. A noted tennis teaching professional, umpire and former tournament player, Beerman is a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame as a tennis umpire.
